Notecard confessions - Jackie Kennedy
In order to complete this project, I recorded a video on myself utilizing the camera on my iPad and then added music and changed the lighting of the video using iMovie. I typed a script of what I wanted the video to convey and then wrote out information about the historical figure I chose on 4x6 notecards with black and pink sharpies, adding pink to give a little contrast and to highlight important words. Honestly, the most difficult part of this entire project was attempting to prop my iPad up to record the video at an angle that was at the right height and that did not show my face (I ended up sitting on three pillows and using pink erasers to help hold up my iPad)! I feel like in the classroom this could be a great project to do at the high school level, but for middle and elementary school their handwriting would be too messy and I do not feel like they would understand the concept of timing throughout the video. It would work amazingly for any book report because students could give a brief biography of the main character, or for any historical project because students could describe an event or an impactful person on their notecards. It could also be incorporated as a "get-to-know-you" project at the beginning of the school year.
I chose to do my project over Jackie Kennedy because I feel like her perspective is even more tragic and heartwrenching than the perspective of JFK during his time of assassination, purely because Jackie has to deal with the grief and the national repercussions directly. Jackie also served as such an icon with her fashion, international service trips, and her family-focused platform in the White House. She is not the most influential historical figure, but she is still a notable First Lady and deserves the spotlight once in a while. Her life story also served well for the emotional aspect of this project because of the assassination, the rumored affairs between JFK and Marilyn Monroe, and the death of her third baby.
